BARBARA KING
I’ve always loved looking at property, and I could honestly do it all day and night. But that passion comes from a deeper place. I have been homeless myself, and the experience is hard to define. It is lonely, exhausting, and far from what many people imagine. Homelessness can look like sofa surfing, moving from one couch to another, your back aching, your smile fading, and stress showing on your face.
Everyone deserves the dignity of having a roof over their head.
I started Konnecting the Dots seven years ago. At my church, St Barnabas in North Finchley, we used to feed people experiencing homelessness. I helped whenever I could, but I will be honest, I hated cooking. So I asked myself how else I could help. I realized my strengths were research, speaking to people, and finding solutions. That became my way of serving.
During the winter months, I even slept outside with people on Monday nights to make sure the women were safe.
Homelessness is human suffering. It is cold, isolating, and overwhelming, and it can happen to anyone. I want to change the narrative by giving homelessness a face, a voice, and a clear pathway out.
This year, we began raising funds by making gift baskets and selling them on the streets for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Every basket was handmade with love, and with the intention that anyone who donated would receive something beautiful in return. It was our way of giving back while raising money to help people move toward safety, stability, and hope.

I became involved with Konnecting the Dots after seeing Barbara’s passion and joining in the fundraising events. Through this, I have witnessed the real difficulties people face when they are trying to move out of homelessness.
Homelessness has no boundaries. It does not depend on colour, gender, or age, and it can happen to any one of us.
I believe we all have a responsibility to give a little time and care to listen, understand, and support people who are too often overlooked or dismissed. Many are living through situations beyond their control, and sometimes what they need most is simply a fair chance.
Konnecting the Dots exists to offer that chance, and I am honoured to be part of this journey.
